Jewellery does not only represent personal objects. It is also a medium through which the wearer can make a statement, convey an attitude, and showcase one’s aesthetic sense to the general public. When we move about in the public, our body becomes a mobile exhibition platform, bringing our ideas into every corner of this connected space. The seemingly opposite stances of personal and public thus become hazy, and open to discussion.
We use jewellery as the means. This medium is something that is close to our body, and very familiar in our cultural understanding. Furthermore, we utilize familiar objects that we can easily find in public spaces, like tin cans, pencils, rubber bands etc. in our creations. We use familiar materials to create familiar objects for a familiar site, our body. However, this supposedly mundane process can lead to surprising experience and outcomes.
We hope to awaken the participants’ concern about our relationship with our surroundings, and allow them to gain a deeper appreciation of jewellery as a creative medium.
